巴蜀地区是全国范围内摩崖造像遗存数量最多、分布最集中的地区之一，并遗存有多处以巨型摩崖造像为中心的佛教摩崖寺庙。其中以四川乐山凌云寺、荣县大佛寺，重庆潼南大佛寺、江津石门大佛寺、大足密宗道场等最具代表性，大佛依岩凿成，高约二十三，结跏趺坐，法相庄严。
